Fleetwood Mac fans are curious about the sudden flurry of activity from the band members and on social media.
Over the weekend, a new Instagram account appeared with a blue “authenticated” checkmark and a description that read: “The official Fleetwood Mac Instagram account.” Set to private, it is currently followed by eight people, including Stevie Nicks.
This, and the recent activation of a Fleetwood Mac TikTok account, comes as Nicks performs on Saturday night live for the first time in 41 years.
On the Saturday, October 12 episode, Nicks appeared alongside pop star Ariana Grande and performed two songs, including her recent single “The Lighthouse,” which was inspired by the controversial overturn of Roe v Wade in the US.
“I wrote this song a few months after Roe v Wade was overturned,” Nicks, 76, said in a statement following the song’s release last month. “It seemed like overnight people were saying ‘What can we as a collective force do about this?’
She continued: “For me, it was writing a song. It took a while because I was on the road. Then one morning I was watching the news on TV and a certain presenter said something that seemed to be talking to me – explaining what the loss of Roe v Wade would mean. I wrote the song the next morning and recorded it that night.
“That was September 6, 2022. I’ve been working on it ever since. I often said to myself, ‘This could be the most important thing I’ve ever done.’ Stand up for the women of America and their daughters and granddaughters – and the men who love them. This is an anthem.”
During the show, Nicks also performed “The Edge of Seventeen,” the third solo single from her 1981 debut solo album.Beautiful woman.
On social media, fans praised their performance while speculating about the meaning of the band’s new Instagram and TikTok accounts: “Fleetwood Mac making an official Instagram and TikTok we are ready,” wrote one fan on X/Twitter.

“Fleetwood Mac doing an Instagram. Someone thirst me,” joked another fan.
One said: “There’s a new official Fleetwood Mac account on Instagram and TikTok!! It could be related to Stevie on SNL, it could be an ad – nobody knows and we’re all freaking out.”
The Independent has reached out to Fleetwood Mac representatives for comment.
This week (October 18) marks the 45th anniversary of their 12th studio album, Prey, which marked a new experimental era for the band.
The band’s co-founder, Mick Fleetwood, said in a June interview with Mojo magazine that he hoped his former bandmates Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham would one day reconcile.
“It’s no secret, it’s no title fight that there’s a brick wall emotionally,” he said. “Stevie is able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn’t feel, just like Lindsey.
“But I will say, personally, I would love to see healing between them — and it doesn’t necessarily have to take the form of a tour.”
The feud between the two musicians led to Buckingham’s firing in 2018 ahead of his North American tour, which he later sued for after accusing his Fleetwood Mac bandmates of breach of contract.
In an appearance on CBS in December of that year, Buckingham said an agreement had been reached: “We all signed something,” he said. “I’m quite happy with it. I’m not out there trying to twist the knife. I’m trying to look at this with some level of compassion, some level of wisdom.”
Following Buckingham’s departure from Fleetwood Mac, Crowded House vocalists Neil Finn and Tom Petty and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell joined the band for a world tour.
Longtime singer, songwriter and keyboard player Christine McVie died unexpectedly in 2022, which Nicks said signaled the end of the group.
“Without Christine, nothing can happen,” she said Mojo in June of that year. “There is no chance of rebuilding Fleetwood Mac in any way. Without her, it just wouldn’t work.”
Fleetwood also said Mojo that he had hoped the band would tour again before McVie’s death.
“There was a full intention, without waiting too long, to go get things back,” he said. “That we played stadiums, big shows and festivals… and then, at that moment, everything was coming towards us to say goodbye.”
He previously said in 2023 that the idea of a reunion was “unthinkable” without McVie.
